Soroptimist is a coined word based on two latin words - Soro (sister) & Optima (best). Its translation: The Best for Women. Soroptimist is an international volunteer service organization for business and professional women that work to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world. Clubs are required to maintain a classified membership which is representative of the diversity of occupations and classifications in its community. This is one reason why membership is by invitation only. Soroptimist are united by their concern and dedication to the quality of life through service. Our club was originally named Soroptimist International of Harford-Cecil Counties and was chartered in 1949. The change to the current name occurred in 1987.
